Yesterday, PSG.LGD announced their withdrawal from the MDL Macau 2019. Due to unavailability of their offlaner player Yang “Chalice”‘Shenyi. Chalice is having serious medical complications and will not able to play for the team temporarily. With MDL Macau 2019 just a few days away, it was necessary for the team to announce their withdrawal. The MDL Macau 2019 takes place from 20th February till the 24th of the same month. It has a prize pool of $300,000 and will take place at the Galaxy Macau as the name suggests.

With just a few days left for the tournament, the organisers had to scramble to get their hands on a replacement team. They have now announced Newbee as the latest team to attend the tournament.

Newbee is not really at its peak and have been unable to produce strong results. They had near last-place finishes in the Starladder IMBATV Minor and Dreamleague Major. The team is not at all a competition to even the Chinese teams in these events.

Newbee will be using a stand-in themselves. Thiay ‘JT-‘ Jun Wen is unable to attend the tournament and will be replaced by Wen ‘awen’Lipeng. The change in such a core role for the team will definitely be a huge decision. We will see how the team adjusts to this stand-in and whether they can have any sort of impact at MDL Macau 2019.

Newbee’s Dota 2 roster attending MDL Macau 2019 is as follows:

  • Xu ‘Moogy’ Han
  • Song ‘SCCC’ Chun
  • Wen ‘awen’ Lipeng
  • Yan ‘Waixi’ Chao
  • Zeng ‘Faith’ Hongda
