Recently video games have come into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The genre that seems to attract the haters is Battle Royale. This time, the country of Nepal has banned the Bluehole title following the footsteps of its neighbors, India. According to the government of Nepal, the video game is addictive, and therefore the youth should not play it.

The ban does not come with a simple warning. Since they have prohibited any Internet provider and mobile operator from giving access to the video game. It is not the first time that a government revolted against the Battle Royale title. Less than a month ago, in the Indian state of Gujarat, 10 teenagers were arrested for playing the game. In India, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is banned since the beginning of March.

No Love For PUBG

Battle royale genre has suffered many attacks from governments and renowned personalities. Not long ago, Prince Harry of England said that Fortnite destroys families and is too addictive. While Logan Paul also sees gaming as a way of “fucking up” your career. These and many more reasons have led the government of Nepal to take such strict actions against the title.

The deputy director of Nepal Telecommunications Authority, Sandip Adhikari will not be popular amongst the children of the country. He is the sole body responsible for controlling telecommunications. Earlier today he has stated that Nepal banned PUBG because it is quite addictive and harmful for children. He further goes on to that the parents are quite concerned about the future of their children. Since instead of studying or doing their jobs they spent hours playing PUBG.

The problem arose when the government of Nepal inquired the telecommunications agency to prepare a report on whether people were becoming addicted to the game. Agency reported that the claims are true. Therefore, Nepal has prohibited PUBG from being sold, bought or played in the country. However, we must bear in mind that in the country there have been no incidents related to the battle royale. Nothing has happened that could trigger the alarms. The ban is simply because of an agency said that PUBG is addictive without any solid case whatsoever.

So the poor Nepalese fans of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds are left without being able to play. Hopefully, they come to their senses and remove the ban on the game. What do you think of these measures?
