Fortnite will get Reboot Vans next week in the v8.30 update – and yes, this is the respawn mechanic that’s been showing up in leaks and teasers for ages. As the early hints suggested, it works very much like the respawn system in Apex Legends, allowing you to claim an item from a fallen teammate and bring it to a set location to bring them back into the fight.

Now, when you die in a squad mode, you’ll drop a Reboot Card (previously referred to as a Second Chance card in datamines). If a teammate picks it up, anyone on your team can take the card to a Reboot Van (again, previously known as Second Chance vans) to get you respawned. The card does not take up an inventory slot.

A glowing mark and audio cue will let nearby players know that a respawn is in progress. If you’re respawning multiple teammates, they’ll come back one by one, and after a reboot the van will be unavailable for an unspecified duration of time.
